CUPE 3912 academic workers at Mount Saint Vincent University and Saint Mary’s University are on strike. Students risk losing courses, mentors, and the quality of education they deserve.

As academic workers, we have a front-row seat to the changes being made to our province’s university education offerings. Public funding has been reduced, courses have been cut, instructors have been laid off.

Many of us earn poverty wages, have no benefits or pensions, and must reapply for our jobs every term. Universities exploit our dedication while cutting funding and raising tuition.

Students pay thousands for less. Fewer courses. Overworked instructors. No stability. The people shaping Nova Scotia’s future are living paycheck to paycheck.

That’s why we are on strike. We are fighting for education, for students, and our province.

I am writing to express my support for CUPE 3912 members on strike at Saint Mary's University and Mount Saint Vincent University.

Nova Scotia's universities are failing both students and educators. Students need experienced and qualified instructors. Making those instructors work for years with no job security is not fair. Making those instructors work for less than a liveable wage is not fair.

Nova Scotia deserves high-quality postsecondary education. Students deserve a world-class university education for the thousands they pay in tuition every year.

CUPE 3912 members are fighting for postsecondary education in this province, which includes good working conditions for academic workers. They are fighting for our future. Their wins at the bargaining table are wins for our entire province.

Negotiate a fair deal, raise wages, and provide stability for the people who make post-secondary education possible.

I support increased funding to universities and a fair deal for academic workers. I urge you to invest in educators. Invest in students. Invest in Nova Scotia's future.
